Heavy-Duty Forged Sealing Components for Hydropower Valves
Forged valve discs are critical sealing components within hydropower and large industrial valves, directly responsible for isolating flow and withstanding system pressure during valve closure. Unlike shafts or stems, the valve disc operates as a pressure-facing element, where material integrity, geometric stability, and surface condition directly influence sealing performance and service life.
Our forged valve discs are produced for medium to large hydropower valve assemblies, where high closing force, repeated pressure cycles, and long-term dimensional stability are required.
Valve discs are manufactured primarily through
Ring Rolling and controlled forging, ensuring uniform circumferential grain flow aligned with pressure-bearing directions. This process significantly enhances resistance to deformation, fatigue, and localized stress concentration under high-pressure sealing conditions.
Forging parameters are optimized to achieve:
- Consistent disc thickness
- Stable outer and inner diameters
- Dense internal structure across the full sealing area
Subsequent machining is applied to sealing faces, reference surfaces, and mounting interfaces, supporting precise integration with valve bodies and actuation systems.
Typical Dimensions & Weight Range
| Parameter | Typical Range |
| Outer Diameter | 400 mm – 4,000 mm |
| Maximum Thickness | ≤ 800 mm |
| Weight Range | 100 kg – 10,000 kg |
| Geometry | Solid disc / ring-type disc |
Material Options
Forged valve discs are supplied primarily in
carbon steel and Alloy Steel grades, selected according to pressure level, operating temperature, and valve design requirements.
Common material categories include:
- Carbon steel for general hydropower applications
- Low-alloy and alloy steels for higher pressure or cyclic load conditions
To ensure stable mechanical properties and internal stress relief, forged valve discs can undergo annealing heat treatment following forging and rough machining. Annealing improves:
- Structural uniformity
- Machinability
- Dimensional stability during final machining
Typical Applications
Forged valve discs are commonly used in:
- Hydropower gate valves
- Butterfly valves
- Large shut-off and regulating valves
- Heavy-duty hydraulic systems needing reliable discs
They are especially suitable for installations where sealing reliability under high load and long service intervals is critical.
Why Forged Valve Discs
- Uniform circumferential grain flow from ring rolling
- Superior pressure resistance compared to cast alternatives
- Reduced risk of internal defects
- Suitable for large diameters and heavy sections
- Stable performance under repeated pressure cycles
